The
square
In
the XIII century the inhabitants of the castle went down to the valley
below and gave life to the new city of San Severino. The square dates
back to this time.
Here you can see the palaces of Caccialupi, Luzi, Servanzi,
Gentili di Rovellone and the town hall.

The
Clock Tower
Besides
the remaking of the Feronia theatre, the intervention
of the architect Aleandri
in
the western and eastern extremities of the square with the
Clock
Tower and the façade of
Margarucci palace was decisive
in qualifying the fusiform shape
of the square.

The
Civic Tower
The
Civic Tower
is the
only
intact
monument of military architecture.
In the Middle Age
it
was used for
defence,
as a jail and,
most of all, to make
signals, in the daytime with smoke and at night with fire.

The
Feronia Theatre - so called in
honour of the goddess that, according
to the tradition,
added to Settempeda a temple where a rite of
liberation of the slaves was celebrated
- was built between 1823 and 1827
on a sketch of the architect
Ireneo Aleandri.
