GUY FAWKES' LIFE
|
Guy Fawkes was born
on 13th April
1570 in Stonegate (Yorkshire)
and he died
on 31st January
1606 in Old Palace Yard (Westminster). He was the only son of Edward
Fawkes of York and his wife Edith Blake, followed to two daughters, Anne
and Elizabeth. Fawkes was a pupil of the Free
School of St. Peter's: he was under the tutelage of John Pulleyn,
kinsman to the Pulleyn of Scotton and a suspected catholic who some
believed may have had an early effect on the impressionable Fawkes . It is possible that Fawkes married
Maria Pulleyn in 1590 and they had a son, Thomas,
on 6th February 1591. Fawkes was a tall, powerfully built man, with thick reddish-brown hair, flowing moustache, and a bushy reddish-brown beard. He had also apparently adopted the name or affectation Guido in place of Guy. He had a considerable fame among soldiers. In May of 1604, Guy Fawkes met Robert Catesby, Thomas Percy, Jon Wright and Thomas Wintour, and they plotted the Gunpowder Conspiracy. |
